The Urban Countryman is a celebration of the beautiful countryside, primarily that which lies within easy reach of South London and the towns and villages that lie across North-East Surrey and the adjoining urban fringe. It aims to highlight the fact that wherever you live you are never far away from stunning views, fascinating wildlife and a wealth of experiences that will delight the senses and enrich your life.
Despite being raised in London I have been a lover of the countryside all my life. Over the past few years I have been priviledged to be able to work as a countryside management volunteer, picking up new skills and knowledge along the way and seeing the countryside in a way that I never had before. The Urban Countryman is my personal view of that countryside, its flora and fauna and the valuable work that goes into its conservation and management, work most often undertaken by an enthusiastic and committed volunteer workforce.
It is also a celebration of the seasons, and aims to highlight what is happening and what there is to enjoy in the countryside as it evolves through its endless cycle.
